The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides that employers can be fined for hiring unauthorized workers or for failing to verify the employment eligibility of their employees through the Form I-9 process. The fines can range from $230 to $2,292 per employee for a first offense, and from $2,292 to $22,927 per employee for subsequent offenses. It is important to note that there may be certain limitations or exceptions to the consequences mentioned above. For example, employers who can demonstrate that they have made a good faith effort to comply with immigration laws may be able to reduce the penalties they face. If a business has violated immigration laws, it is essential that they take immediate action to correct any violations and prevent future violations. This may require seeking legal counsel, conducting a review of employment records and practices, and implementing policies and procedures that ensure compliance with immigration laws. In conclusion, businesses that violate immigration laws in the United States may face significant civil and criminal consequences, including fines, imprisonment, and the potential loss of their business license. It is important for businesses to take proactive measures to ensure compliance with immigration laws in order to avoid potentially debilitating legal consequences.
