# What are the necessary steps to take in Ohio for setting up a business as a partnership or sole proprietorship?

If you’re looking to start a business in Ohio, you have two options: setting up a partnership or a sole proprietorship. In either case, you need to take the following steps to ensure that your business is set up legally and in compliance with Ohio law.

## To set up a partnership in Ohio:

1. Choose a name for your partnership. The name must be unique and not already in use by another business in Ohio.
2. Draft a partnership agreement. This agreement should outline the nature of your partnership, the roles and responsibilities of each partner, and how profits and losses will be split.
3. Register your partnership with the Ohio Secretary of State. You can do this online by filling out the necessary forms and paying any required fees.
4. Obtain any necessary licenses and permits. Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to obtain licenses and permits from local or state authorities.

## To set up a sole proprietorship in Ohio:

4. Obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This is necessary if you plan on hiring employees or opening a business bank account.
5. Obtain any necessary insurance. Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to obtain liability insurance or other types of insurance.
