# What are the legal requirements for starting a small business in Ohio?

To start a small business in Ohio, there are several legal requirements that must be met. These include:

1. Registering the business: All businesses operating in Ohio are required to register with the Ohio Secretary of State's office. This can be done either online or by mail. The registration process includes filing articles of incorporation, articles of organization, or registration for an assumed name.
2. Obtaining necessary licenses and permits: Depending on the type of business being operated, there may be certain licenses or permits required by the state or local government. These may include building permits, health permits, occupational licenses, liquor licenses, and more.
3. Paying taxes: All businesses in Ohio are required to pay state and federal taxes. This includes income tax, sales tax, use tax, and more. Ohio also has a commercial activity tax (CAT) on gross receipts for businesses operating in the state.
4. Complying with labor laws: Businesses in Ohio must comply with various federal and state labor laws, including minimum wage and overtime regulations, anti-discrimination laws, and more.
5. Obtaining insurance: Depending on the type of business being operated, there may be certain insurance requirements. For example, businesses with employees are required to have workers' compensation insurance.
