# What are the different categories of visas available for foreign nationals looking to immigrate to the US?

## Visas Available to Immigrants in the US

There are several categories of visas available for foreign nationals looking to immigrate to the US. These categories include:

1. **Family-Based Visas:** If a US citizen or a permanent resident has a family member who is a foreign national, they can sponsor them for a family-based visa. These visas are available for spouses, parents, children, and siblings.
2. **Employment-Based Visas:** Individuals who have been offered a job by a US employer can apply for an employment-based visa. There are several subcategories of employment-based visas, including priority workers, professionals with advanced degrees, and skilled workers.
3. **Diversity Visa Program:** The Diversity Visa Program, also known as the green card lottery, provides visas to individuals from countries with low rates of immigration to the US.
4. **Refugee and Asylum:** Foreign nationals who are fleeing persecution in their home countries can apply for refugee or asylum status in the US.
5. **Investment-Based Visas:** Individuals who invest a significant amount of money in a US business can qualify for an investment-based visa, also known as an EB-5 visa.

It is important to note that there are limitations and exceptions to each of these visa categories. For example, some family members may not be eligible for sponsorship and certain countries may be excluded from the Diversity Visa Program. It is also important to consult with a licensed attorney to determine which visa category is most appropriate and to ensure that all application requirements are met.
