# What are the common types of visas available for people immigrating to the United States?

As a lawyer, I can provide you with information on the common types of visas available for people immigrating to the United States.

There are several categories of visas available for immigrants to the United States:

1. **Family-based visas:** These visas are available for immediate relatives of US citizens or permanent residents, including spouses, parents, and children.
2. **Employment-based visas:** These visas are available for individuals who are coming to work in the United States and include categories such as: 
     - EB-1 visas for individuals with extraordinary ability in the arts, sciences, education, business, or athletics
     - EB-2 visas for individuals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business
     - EB-3 visas for skilled workers, professionals, and other workers
     - EB-4 visas for special immigrants, including religious workers, broadcasters, and members of armed forces
3. **Student visas:** These visas are available for students who want to study in the United States. They include F-1 visas for academic students and M-1 visas for vocational students.
4. **Tourist and visitor visas:** These visas are available for individuals who are traveling to the United States for tourism, medical treatment, or business purposes. They include B-1 visas for business visitors and B-2 visas for tourists.
5. **Diversity visas:** Also known as green card lottery, these visas are available to individuals from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

It is important to note that each category of visa has its own specific requirements and limitations. Additionally, there are various exceptions and waivers that may apply in certain circumstances.
